SHIT. FIRST REACTIONS TO 2:
(1) Jesus Christ, that’s true.
(2) Dworkin’s writing is very american. Solzhenitsyn said something similar, but his style was less effective to us (or at least to me).
(3) A large part of the growth in mental health is the acknowledgment and relative destigmatization of a level of batshit insanity that has always been with us. See García Marquez.
(4) Moving does seem rough. College was a one-off insertion into a like-minded group. I wonder who my kids would think of as their friends-of-the-family cousins. They probably wouldn’t ever meet y’all’s. And Jason, I don’t want to hear it.
(5) That said, I don’t think love is out of the question, even if it’s no longer dominant.
(6) The 90’s in Chile were just like Dworkin’s 50’s. Everyone was richer, life was more stable and surveys consistently showed that everybody was much less happy. I don’t really understand the present moment.
