One of the little peculiarities of Costa Rica in the wet season is that the sun is in the northern part of the sky. This probably seems unexceptional to anyone who’s crossed the Equator, but I haven’t. Furthermore, when I was here last January, the sun was safely in the southern sky where it belonged. Palo Verde is at about 10° N latitude, and the sun will be directly overhead at 23° 26′ N at the (northern hemisphere’s) summer solstice (today). By my calculations (there does not seem to be a big market for online sun-directly-overhead calculators), the sun won’t be directly overhead at Palo Verde until August 13^th, so unfortunately I’ll miss it by three days.
